Author: Jon Krakauer, Biography/True, 1996, 224 pgs. ISBN - 0-679-42850

Finally I got around to reading this book long after see the movie several years ago. The movie does not hold a candle to the book.

Magic Bus 142, Alex Supertramp and Christopher J. McCandless (CJM) on the Stampede trail between and into Denali National Park in Alaska, whose death and subsequent book by Krakauer, made him famous. This is the story of his life and the morals he lived, and ultimately died by. CJM lived the life he wanted, true to his beliefs. There are few people that could ever image the challenges he faced alone in Alaska. Chris’s hubris, which his critics refer to, have very little idea of how hard it is to live off the land in such an inhospitible place. Having myself lived in the north for more than 30 years and a decade in and out of tents with days a cold as -52^O, I applaud his desire, moral drive, attempt to be a better human and live his life with constant change. That is something we can all learn from CJM is how to be more human than most.
